the lost of my sibling because of a sad event

Dear Editor,
I lost my sibling in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. The reason the fire happened is because the owner didn't care to have safety regulations for his workers. I think if we would of had safety regulations, and building codes this would of not of happened. My sibling was working there to make a living for our family because my parents couldn't work because they are mentally ill. When my sister would get home every day she would tell us that there weren't any heat. They would check her every time for stolen fabric. The working area was crowded she hardly had room to move her arms to sew. She didn't get any breaks even though she worked for a long period of time during that day.
She hardly got paid for how long she worked a day. She told me they would lock the fire escapes so the women couldn't leave before the day was over. They only had three fire pales, and the fire hose wouldn't work. I would tell her she needs to look for a new job, but she said she couldn't right now she had to work when she could go look for one. I am writing this to say we need to change the way safety codes and building codes are because if they would of had good regulations then this fire would of never happened. I also think the owner should of went to jail. I am going to take this to the courts to tell them things have to change in the work areas.

Sincerely,

Shelly Matlock
