who is black and who is not

To me these girls were all black I don’t know why they are saying that they don’t know what they are considered. How I look at is that if you have a parent that is anything other than white. Then you are not white, you are what the other parents race. The reason I think that is because everybody here is white like if you say something other white its more interesting. Its like a surprise that people find out that your not white and they though you were. It’s not a big deal to me what other people think of me or what I look like. More important is what you consider your self or not what the government considers you are.

Colorism

Why do darker skin blacks make fun of the lighter ones?  I don’t know why, but I at least know it is a form of racism. Just because they are mixed with black and white, does not make them not black or not white. I can see it, as it can be confusing for the teenager to be mixed. He or she doesn’t know what group they belong in a judgmental world. Your personal identity can be anything as long as you are ok with it. Socially everyone is always considered to be one race even though they are mixed. What those African American teenagers who are mixed are going through with the darker skins one saying they are not black because they are half white. That is racist to a degree to the white people as well.

Who is black

After watching “who is black in America” I felt different things. I understood How some of the people felt, but I also felt angry at some of them. People in the video were sad and mad because they were tired of being ask what they were. Some off the people were also sad because they felt like being dark skin was ugly, and nasty. The people wanted to be light skinned, or just couldn’t accept they were black. This made me mad because some of those people were being rude, and plain dumb. I understand that maybe they didn’t like when people ask what race they were, but to say that they are ugly, and nasty for their color is just wrong. How can someone say black is ugly and nasty? No, black isn’t ugly nor nasty. I understand when the little kids say that because this world isn’t right, and is getting kids the wrong idea, but grown people are suppose to understand now. Just because they feel ugly doesn’t mean every one who is dark skin is ugly. This is a problem with their self-esteem, not with the actual color. If they don’t want to accept what they are just let it be, but don’t bring some one else down.
i think all those women were some type of black. it honestly shouldn't be about anybody's color, its more so on who they are. black is an beautiful color on any and everyone. i have never had that happened to me, but i have a friend who had low self esteem because she thought she was too black. she was bullied and talked about because she was darker then everybody else. I've helped her realize that it doesn't matter how dark or light your skin is. its about who you are inside. so when i seen that video i was very sympathic to each girl in the movie.

Who is Who?

Who is considered black, I guess it really depends on what you think of yourself. People might just call you what they think you are but don't let them get to you because it don't matter what others think it matters what you think. Everyone in the world has had some kind of racism towards them. I have had people make fun of me and call me white and i go with it because it don't matter to me i am who i am but truly i come from an italian and german family but that is what they consider White is the Census. So by what i can tell we don't pick who we are and neither do the people around us but the government does in the end but it doesn't make everyone else see it their way. So if you want to consider your white or black or anything in-between then do so because who cares what others think as long as you love your self and your skin then be you. I thought we was done with racism but i guess we are still in that time even though we had so many brave people fight for rights.

Colorism

What I think about the videos is that because of colorism people get divided in there community. Also people get judged and questioned about what theirs race is or were they come from because of their skin color. Some people may be called black because of their skin color but are from a whole other culture. Other people see their self as mixed in many cases people have white dads/moms or black/white dads and its hard for them to define themselves because others question them if it is true based on their skin color. Kids start thinking about colorism since an early age saying they hate their skin colors because its ugly. Being a different skin color does affect your lifestyle because it can be a problem while applying to colleges or having a job or getting one. The video taught me that 1/32th of you is black. This relates to me because people identify me as Mexican because of my skin color when I am actually from Honduras a whole different culture I consider myself a mixed Honduran because of all the things that I am mixed with from my race ethics so I consider and I would identify myself a mixed Honduran Hispanic.

Mexican

When I was a younger, in elementary school everyone thought I was Native American. When I hit middle school I would be called all kinds of things like border hopper, spec, and wetback, they would always say go back to Mexico. Which I don’t understand because I wasn't even born in Mexico I was born in Kansas City, Kansas at providence hospital. Sometimes I couldn’t even people someone could say something like that to another human being but there they were saying it to me. All the kids thought it was funny but I didn’t see a funny thing about it. I don’t believe it was necessary. I am not ashamed of where my family is from though and I never with be, being Mexican is who I am and it's awesome!

In my way of thinking, there are many people i this word that are of a different skin and race but i see us as one person. Everyone in the world has there own opinion on what’s beautiful and what is not. But there are harsh people who speak their mind and call someone of a different color ugly. Those people who call others ugly are stupid people, as you can see in the video we watched, there are people who want to change this in society. People in the world love where they came from and are proud of their race and color. Small things like calling a person ugly or telling them there not pretty and there uglly can go a long way in damageing there lives. People

what am I?

I am not black but I do have Hispanic and black cousins. I have never been asked what I am, because people can tell from the color of my skin that I am white. I am not just white I am also Choctaw. I do not have that much in me, but I  do have a little Choctaw blood in me. I have been mistreated by black girls before when I was in elementary school. I was really shy and quiet so they thought they could take advantage of me.  I did not know about the One Drop Project until I  watched this documentary. I think people should not be ashamed of the color of their skin. I thought it was sad when heard the little girl said she did not want to be black because she does not think she is pretty. I just do not understand why there still is racism and kids getting beat up, because of the color of their skin. I wish the world were different and people would get along no matter what color of their skin is. I am glad people are doing documentaries on how black people feel about their skin color, and the way they are treated because of the color of their skin.
